SAFETY

 

An evaluation of safety has been completed at both shipyards and improvements going forward have already began

Training

In order to rectify gaps in safety knowledge and behavior, several areas have been identified for implementation

 

Operational Courses

  • Forklift training
  • Rigging/lifting/overhead crane operators
  • Mobile crane operators
  • Rigging Supervisors
  • Lifting ancillary’s inspection
  • Fire fighting

Behavioral Courses

  • Basic hazard identification and rectification
  • Area Management
  • Housekeeping
  • Roles and responsibilities area/personnel

This training has already commenced and will be ongoing

 

Incident Management

All incidents are now fully investigated, assessed for route cause analysis and corrective action implemented in order to prevent reoccurrence,

 

The company has now started to report monthly to corporate regarding both positive and negative safety performance.

 

Immediate corrective actions have reduced risk, an example was monitoring of first aid incidents showed an emergence of early heat stress injuries, this was immediately identified through immediate reporting and analysis, corrective action was to implement summer working hours directive and the medic and security personnel issued tang electrolyte drink with added sugar and salts from the security pickup to outside workers, heat stress incidents immediately declined, long term actions are the completion of heat stress training package for next year to ensure preparedness and purchase of personal insulated bottles on a belt to keep cold drinks at hand and thinner cotton coveralls.

All incidents are now treated in such depth to ensure the safety of our employees.

 

As employees become more aware of safety issues and behaviors change, the department will switch emphasis to monitoring duties and an inspection program will be introduced to monitor the workplace.

 

A new bespoke permit to work system is under design with additional safeguards added to provide our clients with reassurance that we are controlling high risk operations.

 

QUALITY

 

The current ISO/OHSAS system the company is certified to has been assessed as not effective as has the certification body ABS, long term this system will be replaced with a more effective one and the company recertified under Lloyd Register

The QAQC department is currently under assessment and will result in cross training and multi skilling of engineers and inspectors to provide a more flexible service to Operations.

Following multiple quality investigations, a report has been made to top management of identified competency deficiencies across the company regarding skills and qualifications that require rectification in order to provide superior customer service to our clients

 

ENVIRONMENT

 

Currently underway are several pollution investigations showing a need to significantly improve our performance, this has resulted in multiple corrective actions that are currently underway, the significant area of improvement will be the old shipyard in Dammam, over the coming weeks, visible improvements will be evident within the entirety of this area.

The department has also began assessing company waste management and a report to top management will be presented offering solutions in the coming weeks that will greatly improve our performance.

 

SECURITY

 

New security policy and forms are now implemented showing a greater depth of control at our sites, further improvements will be an independent security assessment, completion of the CCTV program and additional requirements added

A new access system will be fitted as a trail at Dammam main gate and if successful will be introduced at Jeddah Shipyard and Damam Old Shipyard entrance
